Shannon Nelson Alberta has always been my home, as it was my parents’. I went to school in Westlock and graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce. I worked briefly, but over the last twelve years I have stayed at home as a full-time Mom. I currently live in Grande Prairie. I have been involved with the local United Way as well as my children’s school council, the local Community Foundation and the Grande Prairie CPF chapter. With a new strategic plan and some extensive board development, I feel that CPF Alberta is ready to face new challenges and opportunities. I look forward to working with the dedicated volunteers at the board and chapter level, and also with those groups which share the common goal of promoting and creating French-second-language learning opportunities for young Canadians. |

Ginette Beaulieu-Soboleski
It is truly an honor for me to be sitting
on the Board of Directors of this wonderful (and important) organization. I have
always been proud of being French-Canadian and fully bilingual. It has given me
many opportunities.
I have been teaching French as a first or a second language for almost 15 years.
I’ve given numerous workshops throughout the years to new teachers. I’ve been
department head and have shared strategies, ideas and ways of preserving the
French language with administrators, teachers and parents. Not only has it
enriched myself, but the gift of knowledge and language is an incredible thing
to give to children.
I am a mother of three girls, with one in the late French immersion program in
Grade 7 and a 4-year-old going to the Francophone school. The youngest is sure
to follow in her sisters’ footsteps when the time comes. I am positive
that culture and language will continue to be an important part of all our lives
and enrich us as a nation. |

Dorothy Stearns
Dorothy is a heritage presenter for Parks
Canada, married to former professional bull rider and rodeo judge (CPRA) Tim
Stearns. They have two children who began French immersion in Kindergarten and
are now in the high school French immersion program.
Dorothy has served as volunteer president for the CPF Rocky Mountain House
Chapter and values the team of chapter volunteers for their energy, passion,
intelligence and creativity. Every working day, she is influenced by bilingual
colleagues and visitors from around the world who have a richesse of
perspective from the ability to speak multiple languages. Thanks to CPF, her
children will have twice the fun as they engage in numerous bilingual
opportunities throughout their lives. |
